Man Utd Odds On Favourites for FIFA Club World Cup
By: Daryl | December 10th, 2008
The FIFA Club World Cup start tomorrow with Waitakere Utd of New Zealand taking on Adelaide Utd of Australia. It’s unlikely either of those teams will lift the trophy though.
Paddy Power have Man Utd odds on for the FIFA Club World Cup at 1/2.
FIFA Club World Cup winner:
1/2 Man Utd
5/1 LDU Quito (Ecuador)
7/1 Pachuca (Mexico)
10/1 Al-Ahly (Egypt)
12/1 Gamba Osaka (Japan)
40/1 Adelaide Utd (Australia)
200/1 Waitakere Utd (New Zealand)
Here’s what Paddy Power has to day about the tournament:
English teams have yet to make their mark in the competition with neither previous representatives Manchester United (2000) and Liverpool (2005) able to lift the trophy when representing Europe. South American teams on the other hand have dominated the tournament with Brazilian clubs winning three of the four previous World Club Championships and after winning this year’s Copa Libertadores Ecuador’s LDU Quito will hope to continue that run as the 5/1 second favourites.
Meanwhile, World Player of the Year in waiting Cristiano Ronaldo is 6/5 to score in the final should Manchester United get there whilst Wayne Rooney is 12/1 to match David Beckham’s feat in United’s last tournament appearance in 2000 and get sent off.
Paddy Power himself says: “Everyone expects United to walk this but English teams have not taken this tournament at all seriously in the past and could well be open to another upset.”
