Last weekend we were very close on everything but didn’t connect on anything.

Now with the one huge game on Wednesday in Rome, and a few more decent matches this coming weekend, we are almost done for a while, but of course we can’t let this one go by without trying something creative that could work out well, or not.

Original bankroll: 1,000 units
Last time’s bankroll: 1,532.7 units

Last time:
1 – 50 units on Blackburn to win at 1.85 – Final 0-0 – LOSS
2 – 50 units on West Ham-Middlesbrough draw at 3.50 – Final 2-1 LOSS
3 – 50 units on FC Koln to win at 1.91 – Final 1-1 LOSS

Profit/loss = (-150 units)
New bankroll: 1,382.7 units

This week’s Offshore Oscar play:

1 – The big one, Manchester United-Barcelona is finally here and 300 million people worldwide will be watching, after they read the Offside.com, of course.

The two best players in the world, Messi and Ronaldo go head to head in the Eternal City. The big question for both teams is how well the defenses hold up. If Rio Ferdinand is fit, he and Vidic are arguably the best center combination in the Europe. Abidal and Alves are both out for Barca and a lot of pressure will be on YaYa Toure and Gerard Pique. Hopefully there will be nonstop end-to-end action and someone will win 3-2 after 90 minutes. In order to insure that, since we’ve been ice cold lately, we’ll play a draw.

50 units Barcelona-Manchester United draw at 3.20 (so if the game is tied after the 90-minute whistle, we’ll get back 160 units)

Odds from willhill.com

Even as I typed that this last weekend was “easy money” I thought it would be funny if my picks went 0 for 3, but to everyone’s surprise we swept the board and now have so much profit for the season that I’ve had to hire extra security, or at least I would have if these weren’t just “units.”

With only a few more weeks in the regular season, we are running out of opportunities, so this looks like a great week to roll the dice on the London teams in the Champions League. They are both very square prices at home, and the late money coming in on ManU and Barcelona doesn’t scare us a bit, probably.

Original bankroll: 1,000 units
Last time’s bankroll: 1,535.7 units

Last time:
1 – 50 units on Arsenal at win at 2.15 – Final 0-3 – WIN
2 – 50 units on Barcelona to win at 2.70 – Final 2-6 – WIN
3 – 50-unit win parlay on Inter Milan at 1.44 into AC Milan at 1.57 – Final 2-0 into 0-2 WIN

Profit/loss = +205.5 units
New bankroll: 1,741.2 units

This week’s Offshore Oscar play:

1 – Champions League London parlay – Both London teams return home after their first leg matches abroad last week. Arsenal has to overcome a 0-1 deficit and they should be full of confidence, especially with the return of Robin van Persie. Look for the young Gunners, with Cesc Fabregas distributing the ball, to run the ManU defense ragged and prevail.

Barcelona has to adjust back to the Blues back four, having made mincemeat of the Real defense. After being cautious at the CampNou, Gus Hiddink should give Frank Lampard orders to open the offense up and attack the Barca defense. Look for the overrated Puyol to make a few mistakes that Didier Drogba can take advantage of.

50-unit win parlay on Arsenal at 2.62 and Chelsea at 2.70 (so if both London sides win we get back 353.7 units)

Odds from willhill.com

When Stoke’s Ryan Shawcross was credited with the teams’ third goal against Portsmouth in the 90th minute, it felt like a sweet moment for our wager, which could have only been made better had it not been an own-goal that locked the match up at two-all. Such is betting on the so-called beautiful game, and Palermo didn’t help matters by giving up a pair of goals to Juve.

Back to the drawing board.

Original bankroll: 1,000 units
Last time’s bankroll: 1,700.9 units

Last time:
1 – 40 units on Stoke to win at 2.50 – Final 2-2 – LOSS
2 – 40 units on a Palermo-Juventus draw at 2.90 – Final 0-2 – LOSS

Profit/loss = (-80 units)
New bankroll: 1,500.9 units

This week’s Offshore Oscar plays:

1 – Wow! What a match to start off this Champions League round – Inter hosting Manchester United. Both are in first place in their leagues and both are playing really well. It’s the fast paced EPL versus the tactical Serie A. Inter’s two imposing strikers, Adriano and Ibrahimovic have been on the same page in their last few matches and will have to face Man U’s two exceptional central defenders, Ferdinand and Vidic. On the other side, Inter’s defense must contain Christiano Ronaldo. We’ll give Inter the edge at the San Siro.

40 units on Inter to win at 2.37 (so a win gets us back 94.8 units)

2 – Wednesday Champions League parlay – Chelsea and Villareal both cruised in their matches over the weekend. Chelsea hosts a resurgent Juventus, but should get a comfortable win at Stamford Bridge. Yellow Submarine are flying high with American born, Italy international, Guiseppe Rossi, and should win against the visiting Greeks.

40-unit win parlay on Chelsea at 1.67 into Villareal at 1.53 (so if both win we get back 40 x 1.67 x 1.53 = 102.2 units)

Odds from willhill.com

This weekend’s plays are rock-solid though, so make some money along with us, will you? The ridiculously hot Denise Milani has asked me to post her photo her for good luck. We’ll see how that works out.

Original bankroll: 1,000 units
Current bankroll: 950 units

This weekend’s Offshore Oscar plays:

1 – Gareth Southgate has righted the ship at Boro after a slow start. They should build on their recent success against Newcastle at the Riverside.

50 units on Middlesbrough to win at 2.20. (so a win gets us back 110 units)

2 – This week’s odds on Spanish Giants Real Madrid and Barcelona are the one’s we have been waiting for, if they are both on this Saturday at Getafe and Sevilla, the should pull out victories.

30-unit win parlay Real Madrid at 2.10 into Barcelona at 2.10 (so when both win we get back 30 x 2.10 x 2.10 = 132.3 units)

Inter came through, but the shortest price on my 3-team parlay couldn’t even manage a draw, and Athletico Madrid managed to give up an equalizer in the 94th minute. WTF? I didn’t even know there was a 94th minute, and even though I didn’t see it, I’m pretty sure that stoppage time penalty they called was bullshit.

Original bankroll: 1,000 units
Current bankroll: 980 units

This week’s Offshore Oscar plays:

1 – Looks like Aalborg and Celtic are fighting it out for a UEFA spot in Group E. Celtic are not the same team when they play outside of Britain, and the Danes will want to please their home crowd.

2 – Even though they are in last place in Group E, Werder Bremen are poised to leapfrog Anthorosis and Panathinaikos in the final two matches. The Germans know that if they can pull out a win in Cyprus, they will most likely be facing an Inter team that would have already clinched first place.

30-unit Champions League win parlay AaB Aalborg at 2.62 into Werder Bremen at 2.05 (so if they both win we get back 30 x 2.62 x 2.05 = 161 units)

1 – Longshot Shakhtar hung in there for most of the game, but ended up losing 1-0 to Sporting Lisbon on a late goal, and Dynamo Kiev lost the following day anyway, so this wasn’t even close.

Bet: 30 units
Collect: 0

2 – Playing draws is always tricky, and Juventus went up by a goal in the 17th minute and iced it with an insurance goal in the second half, so this one went down in flames as well. Back to the drawing board.

Bet: 40 units
Collect: 0

Original bankroll: 1,000 units
Last week’s bankroll: 1,177.3 units
New bankroll: 1,107.3 units

The Champion’s League matches this week provide a perfect opportunity to roll the dice, and if my Ukrainian parlay comes through I’ll finally be able to afford a personal computer, or what’s left of General Motors.

Original bankroll: 1,000 units
Current bankroll: 1,177.3 units

This week’s Offshore Oscar plays:

1 – It’s payback time for Shaktar Donetsk, who lost at home to Sporting Lisbon in their last match. This is a must win for them if they want to advance. Dynamo Kiev are having a better go of it this year, both domestically and in the Champions League. They will want to hold on to second place, especially with a trip to the Emirates looming.

30-unit Ukrainian win parlay – Shaktar at 5.00 into Dynamo Kiev at 2.30 (so if both win we get back 30 x 5.00 x 2.30 = 345 units)

2 – Real Madrid was probably looking ahead to this week’s match with Juventus when they could only muster a 1-1 draw at Almeria, and they will be looking to leapfrog the boys from Turin in the standings. But I think Juventus coach Claudio Ranieri will come in with a good plan and Juventus will escape the Bernabeu with a draw.

40 units on a Real Madrid – Juventus draw at 3.60 (so if the game ends even we get back 144 units)

Current bankroll: 1,077 units

Offshore Oscar’s plays for October 21 and, 2008

1 – Bayern Munich squeaked out a win at feisty Karlsruhe on Saturday to break a three-game winless streak in the Bundesliga. Luca Toni and Frank Ribery didn’t play the whole match and they should be rested for the visiting Viola.

40 units on Bayern to win at 1.80 (so a victory gets us back 72 units)

2 – It’s now or never for both PSV and Marseille in group D. Perhaps PSV was looking ahead over the weekend to this match when they lost at NAC Breda. It’s even on paper, we’ll give the slight edge to the home squad.

30 units on PSV Eindhoven to win at 2.40 (so a win gets us back 72 units)
