Offshore Oscar’s picks for September 13 and 14, 2008
By: Offshore Oscar | September 12th, 2008
We’ve got the books on the run lately, and some really interesting matches this weekend, so it looks good to keep this hot streak alive. We’ll take some of our winnings and sink them into a couple of parlay plays this weekend, which can be a great strategy when you like some shorter priced teams.
Starting bankroll: 1000 units
Current bankroll: 1143 units
English Premier League for September 13
1 – Of the three newly promoted sides, I think West Brom is still the best. They
have had an extra week to think about their first three matches and should come
out winging at home versus the Hammers and new coach Zola.
40 units on West Brom to win at 2.40 (so a win gets us back 96 units, but a draw or loss gets us nothing)
2 – Newcastle United has a caretaker coach and unhappy fans who plan a protest
before the match. Maybe the players can rise above all that and smash Hull City
at St James Park. 1.70 is too short of a price to bet alone (we’ll make the cutoff
1.8) so let’s make it a two team parlay with Chelsea who are looking forward to teach newly acquired Robinho a lesson in Manchester.
40-unit parlay on Newcastle at 1.70 into Chelsea at 1.90 (This means we need both teams to win, which would get us back 40 x 1.70 x 1.90 = 129.20 units. If both teams fail to win, we get nothing back, so this gets risky but it can be rewarding and fun, especially when you are playing favorites.)
Super Special Italy – Spain/Serie A – La Liga Sunday parlay!
Macedonian striker Goran Pandev was in fine form in World Cup qualifying and he should carry that over with Lazio in their home opener against Sampdoria. Suburban Madrid team Getafe had a fabulous season a year ago and should also roll in their first home match vs. Real Betis in La Liga.
20-unit parlay on Lazio at 2.20 into Getafe at 2.00 (so if both teams prevail we’ll get 20 x 2.20 x 2.00 = 88 units.)
